What exactly is Notarisation?
Notarisation refers to the process where a Notary Public affixes their official seal and signature to a document, either to certify that the document was signed in their presence or to verify facts and details within the document.
A Notary Public can notarise documents for international use, verify facts, and issue Notarial Certificates. A Commissioner for Oaths on the other hand administers oaths and affirmations for documents used only within Singapore. Both roles are distinct, and notarisation is required for documents meant for overseas use.
Common Notary Services and Fees:
Its important to note that Notary Public fees in Singapore are fixed rates and can be viewed on the Singapore Statues Online. The fees are regulated and standardised, ensuring consistency across all Notary Public services. Discounts are not permitted, but quotes can differ slightly for certain add-on services.
Notarial Certificates and Associated Fees:
Every notarised document must be accompanied by a Notarial Certificate which is issue by the Singapore of Academy of Law. The fees are as follows:
- Notarial Certificate: $75
- Authentication by the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL): $87.20
- Total fee per Notarial Certificate: $162.20
As an example, for certifying a one-page document like a passport biodata page:
- Certification fee: $10
- Notarial Certificate fee: $75
- SAL Authentication fee: $87.20
- Total cost: S$172.20
For your benefit we manage the submission of the Notarial Certificates to SAL for authentication. Standard processing takes 1-2 working days, and we will notify you once your documents are ready. We do not charge extra for this whilst other providers may do so.
